Routine cleaning and Dental Hygiene are the foundations of good dental care. Dental Cleanings are tailored to your periodontal (gum and bone) health. In problem areas, we use medicated gels as well as prescription mouth rinses. Ultrasonic scalers are occasionally used to make the procedure more comfortable and efficient.
Sealants should be used in conjunction with a child’s overall preventive Dental Hygiene. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that are applied to the molar chewing surfaces (back teeth). The majority of tooth decay in children and teenagers occurs on these surfaces. Sealants protect chewing surfaces from decay. Sealants are applied without the need for drilling or the removal of tooth structure. It is a simple three-step procedure: We use special toothpaste to clean the tooth. A special cleansing liquid is applied to a tiny piece of cotton and gently rubbed on the tooth before being washed away. The sealant is then applied to the tooth. The sealant takes about a minute to form a protective shield. One sealant application can last for up to ten years. Sealants should be checked regularly and reapplied if necessary.
Additional fluoride products, such as dietary supplements (for children who do not have adequate fluoride levels in their drinking water), mouth rinses, and professionally applied gels and varnishes, may benefit children and adults at high risk of dental decay.
